SPRING TRIP GROUP

1. bring all cookwear and coolers to class by Tuesday.  Be sure to include your personal dinner service in a mesh bag (or pillow case.)  NO PAPER GOODS. 
2. Start checking your packing list.  A revised list is posted on this blog.  It is not too early to begin packing.
3. We desperately need gallon milk jugs frozen with water to use for our coolers.  Please bring these in by Friday!

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. We have been working on filming our short videos “Teens Talking to Teens”.  All films were due Thursday, April 21
2. We took our first Vocabulary test Friday, April 15, and will begin again with the next unit the last week of April

1. Portfolio work is increasing. Please see the link to “END OF YEAR PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS”.  Students should be gathering work in Math and Integrated classes.  Portfolios should be ready for conference BEFORE spring trips, May 9 – 13,
2. Students whose portfolios are not ready may miss some fun activities, so be sure to stay caught up!
3. Conferences will be Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20.

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. Work on completing new vocabulary unit, week one.  Test  is Friday
2. Our first seminar prep begins Tuesday by reading piece, “Ride into Town”.  Ticket is due Wednesday, and Thursday will be the Socratic Seminar.  Friday we will wrap things up with a reflection paragraph.
3. All students need spirals for reflections and notes.  If they do not have one, be sure to get one.

1. Students should begin to gather evidence for 2nd Portfolio Math Concept.
2. Continue to work on community service.  Spring Break could be a great time to get hours.
3. March goal reflections were done in Co-op this week.  Be sure to catch up, if you are behind.
4. Athletic Day Friday. Bring sack lunch and snacks.  Ski trip leaves 7:45 – 8:00 and returns 4:30.  Swimming Trip has regular school schedule.
5. Spring Trip group lists were posted Thursday.   Students are getting very excited!

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. Career unit finished up Thursday with the sharing our careers and turning in our notes.  Students should have turned in a hard copy with a self reflection, as well as an electronic copy put in my district “drop box”.  Some students had trouble accessing the “drop box”, as the district server was having troubles.  Feel free to e-mail me the electronic copy, if you are late with your notes.
2. After Spring Break we will start a vocabulary unit, with regular tests.  Also, we will be engaging in Socratic Seminars, writing opinion paragraphs, and preparing for a video project… spring is an exciting time to have a number of things to “play with”!
3. All students should continue to read 30 minutes five nights a week.  This, and studying for vocabulary tests should be the only homework, if work sessions are used well.

1. CSAP continues this week.  6th and 7th grade will have two tests on Tuesday and one on Wednesday.  The 8th graders have two tests on all three CSAP days.
2. Students should use “no homework” CSAP days to get caught up on work
3. Athletic Day form went out last week.  We will take the children either swimming and ice skating or skiing, depending on what they signed up for.
4. SPRING TRIP CHOICES GO HOME WEDNESDAY.  These are due back Friday this week.  Be sure to get forms in ASAP, since trips will be assigned on space available for 1st choice.  No worries, though… all children will be able to go on a trip.
5. February Goal reflections should have been completed last week.
6. March Goal reflections should be completed soon.

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. We are using the web site,  College in Colorado, to research careers.
2. Students are taking electronic notes, which will be due Thursday, March 17.  Hopefully you will have a chance to discuss careers with your child.  We are having a lot of excitement in the lab, as students find out strengths and interests using the quizzes provided.

1. CSAP starts this week.  It will be Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week and next week.  You should get a good night’s rest and eat a hearty breakfast!
2. February goal reflections should have been done last month.   Get caught up, if you are behind.

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. New “seminar classes” have begun.  Welcome to the new students from Mr. Lamb’s class!
2. We are working on “College in Colorado” web site to develop a portfolio for our careers.   In the next couple of weeks we will be researching careers. You will have lab time at school during the two weeks of CSAP, to find out more about yourselves, your skills , and the careers that might suit you in the future.  Check out the web site!
3. You should read 30 minutes 5 days a week.

1. Tuesday, Feb 15th we have a DCPA play, “Mid Summer Night’s Dream” for the 8th graders.  They should dress nicely and bring a lunch.  They will not go to 1st period that day.  Instead, they should report to Mr. Lamb’s room.
2. Tuesday is also the Arvada Arts day for the 6th and 7th graders. They will go to 1st period.  At 9:20 they will be called to come to the CHOICE classrooms, so that we can leave for the Arts Center.  Children should also pack a good lunch.
3. 6th/ 7th grade students were given the registration forms for next year.  They were due Wednesday of last week.  They will be registering for their classes on Tuesday, when they return from the Arvada Arts day.
4. Students should be doing their February goal reflections.

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. We will have CSAP preparation this whole week.  Students will be writing to prompts and doing some grammar exercises.  Games may just find their way into our study sessions.
2. Read 30 minutes 5 nights a week to meet the CHOICE reading requirement
3. Book Logs are due next Tuesday, the 22nd.

CO-OP

1. Students need to do February goal reflections
2. Registration forms for next year were due Monday for 6th/ 7th graders
3. 8th graders should be checking out high school web site, figuring out what classes they will register for.  They should ask their current Math/ LA teachers, if they are considering advanced placement in these subjects.  Registration will be done here at Platt the last week of February.  They should know what they are signing up for by then.  Feel free to call the high school counselors, if you have questions.

LANGUAGE ARTS

1. Newsletters were due Tuesday this week.  We had loads of fun reading each other’s articles Wednesday and Thursday.  Your children are very talented!
2. We will be moving into CSAP prep, with more work on grammar and writing to prompts.

CO-OP

1. Students brought their portfolios  and shared highlights.  It was great fun.  What a lot of hard work and cool ideas for personal sections!
2. 6th/ 7th graders need to have in their course registration by Monday , Feb 7th   Forms were sent home Friday.

2. Students are still working through grammar school packets during class time.  (This is not homework)
3. All students needed to bring electronic copies of their news articles on Friday, so they could begin to assemble newsletters in Microsoft Publisher.
